PRACTICAL WORK

  Prep: To prepare for tomorrow's practical work of filming an opening sequence, please watch the following two title sequences which are filmed in in a similar 'table top' style. 

Tuesday 9th: This was our last weeks homework and I researched about the table top style of shot and during the lesson on Tuesday we proceeded to film in a table top style. My group had many traditional Japanese items involved and lots of jewellery. We used one phone to film it with a steady hand up along the table. Then transferred the videos into an IMovie were we added titles and the credits. 

Tuesday 16th:  Todays lesson we added the song "Put your head on my shoulder" to the movie and filmed some short live action shots outside by the mansion. 

Tuesday 23rd:Today we filmed some more scenes outside. 

DELICATESSEN/FILM OPENING CONVENTIONS

 Prep: To prepare for tomorrow's practical work of filming an opening sequence, please watch the following two title sequences which are filmed in in a similar 'table top' style. 

When I watched the opening scene of Delicatessen I saw that the film genre is definitely horror because of the close up on the characters scared face and the close up on the psychotic man and his knife. When the man throws his hand down showing he is about the hurt the person in the bin it shifts to the opening credit scene and the words 'Delicatessen' in bold. They set up the introduction so you could see the credits while getting an idea of the set and what the film will be like. A chopped of hand is at the beginning so you can tell there will be some brutality soon.  The music used entices the audience and so does the different shots used for example, closeups. It slows down and stops on some foreign writing so that must be important to what is about to happen. There are many important objects shown in the opening credits like: camera, broken music disc and baby pictures.

CUFFS

•  Do you agree with the view that the programme offers a 'pro-police perspective'? What do you understand by that? What evidence is there of that so far?

  

I believe that in Cuffs police are seen as good because in the scene were Ryan, Jake, Donna and Lino are all having lunch they act normal and are chatting while on their break, but then Donna asks what happened to Jake today and he replied, "I've been bled on, spat on and felt up". When we hear what he has to go through as a police offer we start to have empathy for him and other police offers and feel sorry for them and how they are treated when they are just trying to do the right thing. Also we feel nervous when Ryan is being backed into a corner and being threatened by a criminal called 'Benson'. Because we get to see an insight to what a police officer has to face daily. 

Prep The Avengers : Sound

PREP Watch the first 10 minutes (after the title sequence is over) of The Avengers on Clickview. Analyse how sound is used in the extract to create meaning. You can use any part of the opening scenes - both the opening scene at the seaside at Little Bazeley or the scene in Emma Peel's flat 

• first identify an example - use terminology such as diegetic sound, non-diegetic sound, dialogue.
• then give the example - " Little Bazeley is constructed as a seaside village through realistic sound codes such as..."
• "One example of how sound is used is when Steed makes conversation with Emma Peel..."
• then explain what meaning is created - "In the exchange of dialogue between the fisherman and the undercover agent who arrives from the sea they talk about...... which creates suspicion and comedy because....."
• "Steed's dialogue reveals his accent and shows that he is..." "What Steed says to Emma Peel suggests that he feels in charge because...." /  "Emma's comment about the coffee and cream show that..." / "Emma's throwaway comment about having just finished a scientific article shows that..."

The very first scene is the setting of the seaside in Little Bazeley. There is tension rising because of the non-diegetic music used to create tension and the audience realise something strange is about to occur. You can tell its set at the seaside because of the sea gulls squawking in the background creating diegetic sounds. The camera shot pans over the sea, but further out there is a black sack moving closer. The fisherman stares looking confused while the non-diegetic intense music is playing. However when the black sack emerges from the water a man steps out and the music becomes more fun and upbeat.  When the undercover agent asks "Can you direct me too Little Bazeley?" the fisherman and the undercover agent act normal which makes the audience laugh. So now we know that this show includes Comedy and Tension.
