What's the difference between Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound?

Diegetic sound is when the sound is coming from the film, for example: dialogue, sound effects, and surrounding noises. So when you are filming you are able to hear what's around you.

On the other hand Non-Diegetic sound is when the sound is added in through editing.
